Local DJ duo Joven Grech and Cyprian Cassar more known with their fans as Tenishia, are making history.
The duo managed to rank 207th place on the DJ Mag Polls this year which is an excellent result when considering that there were over 30,000 DJs from all over the world being voted in these polls. It is by far the best result ever obtained by any Maltese DJ and the closest to the Top 100 DJ Chart! But Tenishia are not happy enough with just this...
Full of determination and motivated like never before, the duo promise bigger things to their local followers which are more than proud that for the first time ever in the Maltese dance history a local artist is making such big achievements internationally.
Tenishia are supported by the biggest names in the planet such as Armin van Buuren, Tiesto, Markus Schulz and Paul Oakenfold. They are already popular in various countries around the world with their music and DJ sets and are usually referred to as “the boys from Malta” in several reviews. Features on international magazines about Tenishia are becoming quite common, especially in DJ magazines but lately the Maltese duo have also appeared on an article about an event in Malta on the KLM Airlines Magazines which is viewed by over a million people using the popular Dutch airline.
2010 has been more than good for Tenishia, as they have released several hits worldwide, played in prestigious events like the Amsterdam Dance Event opening and also won the ‘Best Dance Production Award’ at the recently-held Malta Music Awards for their track “Stranger to myself”. But 2011 holds much bigger things for Tenishia, as the plans are even bigger as the duo aim to reach an “album level” which Tenishia intend to release in 2012.
Maykel Piron head of Armada Records (EMI) said that the label has believed in the talents of Tenishia from the very start and that is why he had signed them to his record label which has been very supportive to Tenishia in these last few years.
Besides performances in Australia, the plans for 2011 will see Tenishia mix the twelfth edition of the prestigious ‘Trance World CD Compilation’ which is set to be released on February 18 worldwide. In April 2011 Tenishia will be among the 25 world DJs to perform at the world’s biggest trance event ‘A State of Trance 500!’ in the Netherlands.
Although, Tenishia are limiting their local gigs because they believe that our island is too small and it is very easy to overexpose yourself, they are always keen to give something back to their local fans as they say that the Maltese crowd gives them a lot of motivation.
“We are a product of Malta... It is the Maltese crowd that made us who we are and helped us push it further in times when we were lost in what to do next to get bigger internationally and for this we are very appreciative! Not many DJs in the world are that lucky to have a local following like we do!” says Joven.
This coming Christmas Eve, Joven and Cyprian will be at Tattingers for the last ‘Tenishia Live’ event.
