7-year-old Enya Magri from Mellieħa, has been chosen to represent Malta in this year’s 52nd edition of the popular Italian children’s festival ‘Zecchino D’Oro’.
Enya, who attends St Monica School, Gżira, has always kept music and singing at heart. This young girl’s dream of taking part in such a prestigious event triggered her persistence in always working hard to turn her dream into reality.
Enya, who is currently training with her voice coach Priscilla Psaila, will interpret a song with lyrics by Christopher Azzopardi and musical composition by Andrew Zammit. The song features the story of a mermaid.
The young singer is expected to start her official training for the event throughout the coming month in Bologna, where she will rehearse her song with the choir and record her song. In November, Enya will return to Italy to participate in the final of Zecchino D’Oro which will be broadcast live on Italian television.
Enya has already represented Malta on different occasions. She placed 2nd in both the Verdinote Festival with her song ‘Le Tre Bambole’ which she sang with Nicole and Yanika and at the Ti Amo Festival in Romania with the song ‘I Mondo Dei Bambini’ which she sang as a duet. Enya won the Festival Lwien Mużikali with the song ‘Ħabib tat-Tfal’ and also won the Festival l-Għanja tal-Maltin where she interpreted the song ‘Kukku’.
Next October, Enya will be representing Malta for the second time in the Verdinote Festival this time with an Italian version of the song ‘Kukku’ written by Christopher Azzopardi and composed by Priscilla Psaila.
Enya’s parents Paul and Elaine Magri together with her 14-year-old sister Jody, have been of great support and encouragement.
