Con 1.500.000 album venduti in tutto il mondo, 4 UK Top 10 Album, i Maximo Park sono pronti a tornare con “Risk To Exist”, il nuovo disco di studio contagiosamente pop. Co-prodotto da Tom Schick (Wilco, Beck, White Denim) e dalla band stessa, registrato completamente live negli studi dei Wilco (The Loft a Chicago), “Risk To Exist” arriva a tre anni di distanza da “Too Much Information”.
Il nuovo album vede i Maximo Park in ottima forma, con un ritorno al sound delle origini, melodie coinvolgenti, killer-rock e pop. Appesanta dal world affairs del 2016, la band di Paul Smith e soci affronta, in “Risk To Exist”, tematiche legate al sistema politico ed all’urgenza di trovare una soluzione a questo sistema malato ma, come afferma la band stessa, con melodie contagiose e divertenti.
Il primo singolo, nonchè la title track del disco, è un concentrato di perfetto indie-punk confezionato su batterie magnetiche. Inspirato dalla situazione dei migranti nel mondo, dall’attitudie politica e dall’amore che, in un modo o nell’altro, riesce sempre a riafforare dal male, “Risk To Exist” è un pianto di compassione verso la vita.
‘The album is, ultimately, about empathy. Some songs are simple messages of solidarity and others are fuelled by anger at the elitist, established order of British society. There's a questioning of power throughout and a feeling that there must be a different way of structuring our society in order to alleviate inequality. Musically, the songs reflect more soulful and groove-based influences, allowing more space in the arrangements than ever before.
