There's an electricity that lingers in the air surrounding the hallowed Donington turf and it’s more than warranted too. It's a place where legacies are cemented and history is made. And you can be certain that Slipknot have well and truly sealed their legend and legacy at Download.

A great deal has happened to Slipknot since the last time they set foot on the consecrated grounds, which the Iowan metal titans detonated on Friday, as laudable Download headliners. Suspense, anticipation and a tsunami of enthusiasm alleviated the weariness of those who’d clung onto the barrier all day in order to catch sight of the spectacle that awaited. Without a doubt this was the act that people had come for and conjured the epitome of excitement and they sure weren’t going to be deflated.

Only a matter of seconds were required before carnage engulfed the vicinity and the maelstrom of bodies moshed vigorously to Disasterpiece; ensuing the comical introduction music of Get Behind Me Satan and Push by Billie Jo Spears. Armed with an infallible setlist of the hits that gave Slipknot their reputation and somewhat malign masks with accompanying jumpsuits - the ‘Knot are back!

Merely five songs in, the stress of the sweat dewed crowd appeared too much, and the barricade was in dire need of repair. "No one is getting hurt on my watch," vowed frontman Corey Taylor whilst the amendments were made before resuming Before I Forget. Yet shortly after the occurrence resurfaced during the emotionally charged set, full of intense passion from both the multitude and band alike.

An astounding encore of (sic), People=Shit and Surfacing brought the show to a close, whilst Paul Gray’s number ‘#2’ embellished the back of the stage as a sign of respect and honour. Fire, UV snow, and a pneumatic drum riser; the wait was worth it and Taylor suggests that we might be seeing Slipknot gain in the country that is his self-proclaimed ‘second home’ sooner than we think... Let’s just hope that someone’s redesigning the barriers!
