A long-missed name amongst the Technorati elite, Intec Digital have re-emerged onto the electronic music stage with a masterclass in driving techno: Pure Intec 2.

Born from long discussion with DJs Carl Cox and Jon Rundell, the album uses pioneering USB technology - users buy a USB stick included with the compilation, and then receive subsequent Intec Compilations seamlessly as they are released.

Any suspicions of new technology are quickly put to rest when the listener settles in to this latest offering however. Where the trend for some time has been toward techno venturing into the deep-house or alternate electronica side of things, kick-drums softening, synths less compressed, Pure Intec 2 is a comprehensive lesson in straight, 3am main-room old-testament sounding music.

Carl Cox mixes side one of the release, opening across a series of tracks sampling the very best in an increasingly international sound, with Eastern-sounding wobbles, perfectly timed shifts between minor and major tones, a mid-mix run of tough straight-road tech-house with plenty of smooth builds and unforgiving drops, before slowing into some filtered up vocals and finishing out with some stabby electro.

On Side 2, Jon Rundell is the Dec to Cox's Ant - rolling straight into a powerful opening quarter with biblical-sounding kicks, plenty of tribal undertones and icy sounding hats and that unforgettable rolling steam train sound punctuating so many turns.

This is fantastic, driving home at 4am, no-frills techno. Go buy.
