Better is your typical indie summer song with fast riffs and catchy lyrics which have propelled bands like The Kooks and Pigeon Detectives to great heights in the past. The 4 minute track goes from strength to strength as the song goes on lead vocalist Joel Hodge showing his diversity in the verses.
You can tell on the first listen that despite ‘Better’ being a good song to listen to, hearing The Tricks perform it live would be a different kettle of fish!
The guitaring from the off right the way throughout the song remains consistently pleasing, with a clear typical indie sound being shown off. With a lot of competition on the indie circuit, The Tricks may find it difficult to succeed, however if they carry on or better ‘Better’, they are more likely to end up like The Strokes, rather than Pigeon Detectives who peaked too soon in their career!
