The Strands

The Strands perform as a birthday celebration tonight in Cabaret Voltaire, but fingers crossed it’s not just another one off gig. Through the years the Strands have shape-shifted, adopting new members and performing in new venues. This evening though, it’s back to basics, with the original three members playing with full musical force in their home town.

The Strands are a heavy-instrumented, guitar-fuelled trio from Edinburgh, fronted by husky rockstar-vocalist Andy Moore. Their songs are fiery and enthusiastically performed, but above all, they are extremely catchy, alluring lullabies representative of the ever-changing Edinburgh music scene. ‘Tomorrow Too Soon’ and ‘Ruins’ present the highlights of the set tonight, but then again they are the firmly-grounded signature songs that epitomize The Strands career so far.

As much as the old tunes are a successful segment of their live set, the newly-written and freshly performed songs, (one of which is still untitled) propose a leap forward in their musical style. Still as heavy and as guitar-led as any other song they’ve penned, the newer material suggests a welcome, and more than overdue, return to the live circuit for the always handsome The Strands.
