'Sexy T Rex' is the new single release from Kaleidophone's new album ‘What’s your Tonic’ with the proceeds of the single going to the charity Cancer Research UK. The band consists of Al Holland, co-front man with a soothing gruff voice, baby faced James Holland on bass, Mark Thompson on drums (whose day - glo drums predate Coldplay!) and Mark Wells, a lead singer not unlike Graham Coxon but without the angst. This is a band with a definite sense of humour proclaiming Right Said Fred, Shania Twain and Gareth Gates as their influences.
With upbeat singles such as 'Sexy T Rex' it’s no surprise that their radio friendly music is often circulating the airwaves. Do much so in fact that Colin Paterson from BBC Radio 2 has proclaimed them to be a “British Vampire Weekend”. Not a bad comparison! The band's slickness comes from spending six months of last year finishing off the album with the help of John Davis who has worked with the likes of Florence and the Machine and U2 .
Reeling from their recent gig at the TT festival on the Isle of Man and news that they will be supporting the Hoosiers this September the guys were in good spirits when I caught up with them during a sound check at their latest gig. They chatted about their busy year ahead with upcoming performance for the Olympic Torch celebration and a European tour in the pipeline. I caught the band backstage to talk about this summer and their plans for the future with the interview turning into a Spelling Bee for band member Al Holland.
