Brisbane alt-country duo Texas Tea decided on a musical detour for this first taste of their forthcoming third album.
Described by vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Kate Jacobson as “a real corker”, her words pretty much sum up the vibe of this rather swamp-rock inspired affair, straying from the duo’s usually more mellow and subdued style.
After heading into the studio with legendary producer, Magoo, the two-piece have conjured up ‘I Don’t Write No Sad Songs’ and this kicker certainly sounds anything but sad!
While it’s usually Kate whose enchanting voice dominates the majority of the band’s material, here it’s partner (and multi-instrumentalist) Ben Dougherty who takes over vocal duties, wittily proclaiming his tough stance on song-writing rules. Not completely reduced to tea brewing duties, however, Kate contributes some piercing ‘uuuhhhs’ and ‘aaahhhs’ on the number.
Sweaty, guitar-driven and held together by a fast n mean psychobilly rhythm, the temperature keeps on rising with every beat and every riff.
“I gotta tell you that I’m not the one for you”, Ben addresses an imaginary partner throughout the track’s four minutes-plus playtime.
That may well be so, but yours truly gotta tell YOU, dear readers, that said track is one to order and groove to!
This new single is released on limited edition flexi-disc vinyl (remember the vinyl you used to get for free in magazines?) with individually numbered handcrafted cardboard packaging. The song is also available for free download and streaming from the Texas Tea Bandcamp page, while the flexi-disc vinyl can be ordered from the same page (http://texastea.bandcamp.com).
Watch out for Texas Tea’s new album, to be released this autumn!
