The Tricks are a 4 piece indie band based in London. On the 6th February 2012, they aim to release their debut single (Just for the Summer/Remember me) through Unison Music Group. Later on this year (summer time), The Tricks are hoping to release their debut album which hasn’t been named yet.

When listening to the debut songs on the Double A Side (Just for the Summer and Remember me), you can instantly tell which the main single is and which the accompanying track is. However, like most singles where lyrics are the main emphasis, The Tricks follow suit but it is the second track ‘Remember me’ which stands out.

The main single on the Double A Side, ‘Just for the Summer’, is your typical catchy indie single. With very catchy lyrics and a decent sound, there doesn’t seem too much wrong with this track. During the song there is a decent guitar riff that no band would be ashamed of, however it is nothing that will really open your eyes from a deep sleep. The chorus “Lost control, it breaks my heart to see, you lost control with me” is extremely frequent and perhaps the catchiest part of the song.

The somewhat dark horse of the 2 ‘Remember me’, should definitely be on an album and perhaps a future single rather than a plausible B-side. The slower of the 2 (Remember me) is certainly a diamond in the rough with cheesy and somewhat rhythm less lyrics. However the true sound comes from the guitar which makes the song stand out. Once you get to around the 3 minute mark in the song, you will understand why….

The guitar takes the song by the neck and virtually chokes the crap out of its system whilst simultaneously produces magic that sets the song alight. For just under a minute, you can The Tricks potential, that if they produce similar sounds to this, they can easily hit the big time!

In terms of what other bands they sound like. The vibe I get, especially from the first single, is half way between Maximo Park and The Futureheads. Which especially with the former, is somewhat of a complement? It depends what route they take in the future in terms of sound, but there is no reason why they can’t be the next Maximo Park, instead of the next Scouting for Girls.
