Liam Tarpey has been working his way around the London jam scene for a while now and it shows in his raw and blisteringly quick guitar work – you can’t waste your time at a jam, just be ready.
He has also been very busy on the Spanish and French Blues scenes (yes, they do both have very active and enthusiastic scenes) and has released two previous solo albums.
This time around he has hooked yup with Rob Millard on bass and James Taylor on drums, both guys he met at jams, and is touring as the Liam Tarpey band.
So, what is the album like? 10 tracks of self-penned Blues with a raw and original edge and some very tasty songs in the mix.
He isn’t the messiah but he is a very able player and sounds as though he will be a blast live.
Check out ‘Krypto Blues’, the title track with its massive power blast, ‘Oyster Card Blues’ for its metal guitar slide opening and the bouncy and sixties-sounding ‘Pennies’ as the standout tracks but there really isn’t a bad one here.
He will be playing Proud in Camden tomorrow - worth checking out
