Nerina Pallot's fourth album follows some songwriting activity for Kylie, and the linkage to pop is clear here on some of the tracks. Add in Bernard Butler production and the combination really starts to pay dividends.

Album opener, and lead single 'Put Your hands Up' was apparently originally destined for Kylie's Aphrodite album and it's clear to see how these would have transgressed to the Queen of Pop.

Nerina however gives the track a more sultry opener before the uplifting chorus finally cuts in. Elsewhere, elements of Martha Wainwright, Adele and Duffy appear at various points. ‘Butterfly’ is a beautifully constructed pop track with a 60’s element to it (Bernard Butler’s influence no doubt). ‘Grace’ is a simple yet effective strings led ballad allowing Nerina’s vocals to really shine.

Year of the Wolf is probably Nerina’s most commercial album to date, and shows her song writing skills are improving all the time.
