It was 26 years ago that José Carreras, Placido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti sang together in Rome, in the concert UNA NOTTE MAGICA, filling one of the most enchanting temples of opera, the Teatro delle Terme di Caracalla. The result was the birth of the most internationally recognised names in music, THE THREE TENORS.

Now, 26 years after that iconic concert, a night that defined a whole genre in music, award winning opera trio, IL VOLO paid homage to THE THREE TENORS, with a special one off concert in front of a capacity crowd of 6,000 people in the magical setting of Florence’s Piazza Sante Croce, early this summer in July.

Captured for special edition CD, 2CD/DVD and digital only versions, NOTTE MAGICA – A TRIBUTE TO THE THREE TENORS, will be released worldwide on September 30th, in the UK on Right Track Records and distributed by Universal Music.

The brainchild of long time Il Volo manager Michele Torpedine, the once in a lifetime event saw the trio team up with legendary tenor, and one of the architects of the genre, Maestro Placido Domingo to stir not only the memories of those who experienced the true force of THE THREE TENORS the first time, but also allow IL VOLO’s fans to discover the ongoing significance, made even more poignant with the full support of Nicoletta Mantovani and the Fondazione Luciano Pavarotti.

Piero Barone, Ignazio Boschetto and Gianluca Ginoble performed a programme that went from popular Neapolitan, Italian and international music, to blending in complete harmony with songs from famous musicals and renowned classical opera arias.

As well as conducting the great Teatro Massimo orchestra of Palermo in eight pieces during the evening, Maestro Domingo also sang Non Ti Scordar Di Me with Il Volo.

“A tribute to such artists and to such an event could be considered presumptuous, but in fact it is not, as we have not the slightest thought of comparing ourselves to our idols who will be forever our artistic inspirations,” say Il Volo.

“I am very happy to be with Piero, Ignazio and Gianluca conducting them on this magical night under the stars in such a beautiful city, Florence! I really love these guys. They are performing such great repertoire around the world – the same music I’m singing at my own concerts,” says Plácido Domingo.

2016 has been a vintage year for Il Volo; having released new studio album Grande Amore, the trio have just completed a lengthy 50 date world tour including a sold out show at London’s Palladium. Having performed to over a million people and released two multi-platinum albums, Il Volo continue to be one of the best-selling recording Italian recording artists.

The group will start their next world tour in March 2017 in North America.
