New York indie rock stalwarts Interpol have announced the release of their upcoming studio album, This Mirror Weighs a Ton, marking their first new full-length record in four years. Scheduled to arrive on August 28, 2026, the album represents the band's debut release for Partisan Records. To celebrate the announcement, the group has shared a double single featuring the album's opening tracks, the title track and "See Out Loud."

The twelve-track record was produced by Andrew Wyatt and mixed by long-time collaborator David Fridmann. Recorded at Wyatt’s studio on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, the project marks the first time the band has produced an album in their original home base in more than a decade. The upcoming record expands Interpol's atmospheric sonic palette by introducing strings, woodwinds, acoustic guitar elements, and layered vocal harmonies, all while preserving the driving, rhythmic foundations that initially established their career. The title track features an immersive blend of warped bass and ghostly vocal textures, while "See Out Loud" delivers serrated guitar riffs and a rare vocal contribution from guitarist Daniel Kessler.

The thematic direction of the album heavily explores motifs of reflection, perception, and emotional tension. Frontman Paul Banks developed the lyrics through an improvisational vocal process where melodies and spontaneous phrases evolved simultaneously. The chosen album artwork features a contemporary piece by artist Addie Wagenknecht, which currently resides in the permanent collection of the Whitney Museum of American Art.

The band is preparing for a busy live touring schedule across North America, Europe, and the United Kingdom. Following a massive recent headlining performance to over 200,000 fans in Mexico City and a preview set at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, the group will launch an extensive headline tour across North America next month. Interpol will then return across the Atlantic this autumn for an 18-date co-headlining European and UK arena tour alongside Bloc Party. The joint tour will conclude in December with two closing arena dates at London's Olympia.
