Enraptured Records, purveyors of quality space rock / pop and ambient mood music, have announced the release of a split CD EP, carrying two tracks each by Essex tunesmiths Beatglider and Shinri.
Indie slack-core stars, Beatglider, return after a self-imposed sabbattical during which side-projects, writing, recording and re-grouping was the order of the day.
Now the languid five-piece are back with two new songs. East coast England meets West coast USA, their music evoking memories of the late-lamented Pavement, My Bloody Valentine and Galaxie 500, fused with their own brand of wistful melancholia. Their songs have an engaging yet unpolished feel to them, ready to be shared with each and everybody! These near-elegiac tracks act as a continuation of all that has made Beatglider the quietly successful unit they are, and an engaging introduction for the new listener, who may have been unlucky enough to miss out on the band before.
Newcomers Shinri features members of the quietly acclaimed post-rock collective Junkboy (the brothers Hanscomb, who released their exceptional sophomore album, ‘Lost Parade', on Enraptured Records last summer) and emo-rock kings Cars As Weapons (drummer Richie Harwood), with vocals by Jay Thornton (who drew the stunning cover artwork). Shinri have been working tirelessly on recordings of late, and ‘Sever' and ‘Corn Fields' mark Shinri's debut recorded output. Their influences range far and wide – from early nineties indie Americana such as Elliott Smith, Sunny Day Real Estate and The Flaming Lips to the more esoteric, pagan melodies of Bert Jansch, Vashti Bunyan and The Incredible String Band – fusing these ingredients together in their own inimitable style help to make Shinri a tantalising prospect.
The split E.P. will be available in February via Enraptured Records and Tommy Basilio. Keep checking the label or band websites for more information on release dates.
