Contemporary classical 12 piece band Icebreaker, in partnership with pedal steel guitar musician BJ Cole, return to the Science Museum on Monday 12th November for the UK launch of the band’s 2012 album, Apollo.
This one-off performance will feature works by Michael Nyman, Conlon Nancarrow and Michael Gordon, with music from the Apollo album. Apollo, Icebreaker’s version of Brian Eno’s album Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks, is arranged by South Korean composer Woojun Lee. The performance will be accompanied by footage from Al Reinert's film For All Mankind on the Science Museum's vast IMAX cinema screen.
Icebreaker’s recording of Apollo was completed earlier this year, following a number of sold out, highly acclaimed live performances both in the UK and internationally. Icebreaker previously performed at the Science Museum in 2009, marking 40 years since the Apollo program landed humans on the Moon. The Apollo 10 capsule, which transported Tom Stafford, John Young and Gene Cernan to the Moon and back, is on display as part of the Making the Modern World gallery.
