Stevie Wonder says a duet with Amy Winehouse would have been “amazing”.
The legendary singer-songwriter considered collaborating with the late British star before her death in 2011. Stevie has been left saddened by the passing of Amy, as well as other music icons including Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston.
"It's been a heartbreak. Obviously I knew Michael,” he told UK newspaper The Guardian. "I knew Whitney, too, and I understand Amy came to my concert in England a couple of years ago. I was thinking about us doing a duet – an old Marvin and Mary Wells song called Once Upon a Time. It would have been amazing."
Stevie was then quizzed on whether he would have offered Amy some words of advice if they had worked together. The 27-year-old star famously battled issues with alcohol and drugs, but Stevie believes anyone is capable of cleaning up their life.
“There’s always a point,” he insisted.
The 62-year-old star has never gone off the rails during his lengthy career.
Stevie says a past experience deterred him from wanting to experiment with illegal substances.
"First of all, I'm no better than the next person,” he added. “But I've never had a desire to do drugs. When I was 21 I smoked marijuana, and I didn't like the way it made me feel. When I woke up the next morning I felt like I'd lost part of my brain."
During the interview Stevie also revealed he has never felt his blindness was a “disadvantage”.
