Absolute Radio, famous for staging gigs in unique and unusual places, is set to create yet another moment in music history.

Tim Burgess and Mark Collins from The Charlatans – a band currently celebrating their fifteenth anniversary of seminal album “Tellin’ Stories’ are set to perform on Spitbank Fort, a former Napoleonic property dating back to 1878, situated a mile offshore from Portsmouth Harbour, accessible only by boat and completely surrounded by water.

At 4pm on Thursday 21st of June Tim and Mark from the band will take to the stage to perform an intimate acoustic Isle of Wight Festival warm-up gig to just sixty lucky Festival goers. They will be treated to the once-in-a-lifetime experience en route to the Festival, before watching Primal Scream take to the stage for the headline slot in the Big Top on Thursday night.

Fans will be able to win tickets by listening to the Christian O’Connell Breakfast Show on Absolute Radio, with more details and chances to win at www.absoluteradio.co.uk.

Absolute Radio Breakfast Show host Christian O’Connell said, “What better way for Tim and Mark from The Charlatans to celebrate 15 years since ‘Tellin’ Stories’ by performing on a private Fort in the middle of the sea. It’s what rock n roll dreams are made of.”

Tim Burgess from The Charlatans said, “One off gigs are often in pretty cool venues but this might just top the lot - a fort in the sea to keep Napoleon out? I had to look it up and it's even crazier than I'd imagined. Mark and I can't wait. Who'd have thought there'd be somewhere between the mainland and The Isle of Wight Festival? We'll see you there if you win one of the tickets.”

The Charlatans sound has inspired today’s musicians and the revival is leading to the discovery of their music by a brand new generation of festival and gig-goers. The band have recently announced a series of celebration shows to mark the fifteenth anniversary of seminal The Charlatans album ‘Tellin’ Stories’ first released in 1996.

Absolute Radio Presents Tim Burgess and Mark Collins from The Charlatans on Spitbank Fort is the latest in a line of one-off gigs staged by the radio station. Elbow graced the Crypt at St Paul’s Cathedral, Elton John the ethereal surroundings of the Union Chapel, Lenny Kravitz and Kasabian took London by storm in secret Soho gigs. Biffy Clyro claimed the first ever gig at the Houses of Parliament, London’s infamous Regent Street was closed for Madness and Newton Faulkner was persuaded to play in a Hot Air Balloon high above the Alps and Texas performed in Tower Bridge. All of which were truly un-missable, money-can’t-buy experiences for genuine music fans.

Absolute Radio Presents Tim Burgess and Mark Collins from The Charlatans on Spitbank Fort at 4pm on Thursday 21st of June. Highlights of the gig and an exclusive interview with the band recorded on the fort will be broadcast on the Christian O’Connell Breakfast Show on Friday 22nd June in a special ‘Isle of Wight Festival Special’ broadcast from the fort.
