Malta as a nation has been blessed with a number of incredible vocal talent but standing the test of time in the past couple of years has been none other than Joseph Calleja who has been complimented on numerous occasions of having 'a golden age voice that routinely inspires comparisons to “legendary singers' without adding that he 'has become one of the most sought-after tenors on both sides of the Atlantic'. The tenor keeps his home country close to heart and has promised to keep presenting a concert every year bringing well known acts to join him in haunting and enchanting the enthusiastic crowd present at the Floriana, Granaries. His accolades continue to grow but in the past twenty four hours, he has surely been positive about the way his career is heading with one of his performances garnering a nod for the upcoming edition of the Grammy Awards.
Earlier this year, he performed alongside the incredible mezzo-soprano; Hayley Westenra and the Italian Icon; Lucio Dalla but that might not truly have been the highlight of the year which has also included being asked to perform at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert, performing on 'Ti Lascia Una Canzone' shown on RAI or even making music charts all over the world including the higher echelons of the top ten in both the United Kingdom and the United States. The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences of the United States has just announced the nominations for the upcoming edition of the Grammy Awards taking place in February 2012 and Joseph Calleja alongside his colleagues Renée Fleming, and Thomas Hampson have gained a nomination for the Best Opera Recording having performed in the Metropolitan Opera's recording of Doctor Faustus and the Royal Opera House recording of La Traviata. This is an outstanding achievement for Joseph Calleja and we would like to wish him the very best of luck with such a nomination maybe he can become the first Maltese artist to win a Grammy Award and would like to wish him a very happy holiday season filled with joy and success.
