The Voice by Dean ‘Midas’ Maynard
In early 2012, the BBC will launch, what is to be believed, one of its biggest ever Reality shows and I for one am really looking forward to it.
The Voice will also shake up the whole ‘singing’ competition show, putting a fresh new spin on the X Factor format that has dominated our screens since 2004.
So how will it work…?
We will see four "coaches" (not judges), each pick acts from blind auditions. This will have them sitting in chairs with their backs to the singer. When they hear a voice they like, they will turn their chair around to face the singer. If more than one coach turns their chair, the singer chooses who they would like them to coach them.
If no one turns their chair, the act is eliminated, but they could be given a second chance, being recalled if each coach hasn’t got their allocated number of contestants.
At the end of this process, each coach will have 8 acts and the show will then enter the battle phase. This will see two of their own acts singing against each other.to fight for their place.
They both sing the same song in front of a studio audience. After this performance, their coach must choose which singer from each "head on battle" will advance.
This will leave 4 acts for each coach that will go onto the live shows. The battle will continue each week therein, 2 each for the Semi Final, then leaving just one act for each coach in the Grand Finale.
The Winner in the US version received a cash prize and a recording contract; I would assume the UK version will do the same.
After the show the Top 2 from each team went on ‘The Voice’ tour. Again I would expect our version to do the same.
Jessie J is the only confirmed coach at this stage but other rumored coaches are Mark Owen, Mary J. Blige, Lenny Kravitz and Will Young.
I hope the show does well for the BBC and I wish them all the luck in the World with it.
