John Larson, who was the trumpet player for the Ides of March, passed away on Wednesday from cancer at the age of 61. He is the second member to die this year after guitarist Ray Herr, who also died of cancer, passed away on March 29 at the age of 64.


Randy Travis is being honored this month in celebration of his 25 years in the business. Wednesday night, it was at the Grammy museum in Los Angeles where he performed acoustically and took questions. On October 4, it will be at the Grand Ole Opry with guests Carrie Underwood, John Anderson, Josh Turner, Gene Watson and Connie Smith.


Public Image Ltd. has finished recording their new album, the first since 1992's That What is Not. John Lydon and company have been recording at Steve Winwood's studio in Cotswolds, England.

R.E.M. will release a new compilation of their career on November 15 with Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage: 1982-2011. Presumably it will be similar to the 2003 In Time with additional songs from the albums Around the Sun, Accelerate and Collapse Into Now.


John Du Cann, guitarist for Atomic Rooster along with a number of other groups, passed away on Thursday from a suspected heart attack. He also reached number 33 on the British singles chart in 1979 with Don't Be a Dummy.
