AMY WINEHOUSE is in court this morning to stand trial for an assault charge.

The singer, who was greeted by a media scrum as she arrived, allegedly attacked a woman at a charity ball in central London last September.

At an earlier hearing the 25-year-old pleaded not guilty to the charge that she attacked Sherene Flash in Berkeley Square.

Winehouse, who performed at the ball before the alleged assault, gave her name as Amy Jade Civil at the March hearing.

But after divorcing estranged husband Blake Fielder-Civil earlier this month, she is expected to appear under her maiden name for the trial at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court.

Winehouse recently returned to the UK from an extended break in St Lucia.
