Alphabeat turned down a premiere support slot with the Spice Girls on their world tour because they didn't want to be associated with them.

The Danish popsters band wanted an audience to be introduced to them free from other connotations.

Talking to Orange, singer Stine Bramsen said: "We said no thank you to supporting the Spice Girls and we did that because we're pretty new for people here."

She explains: "For the UK we just wanted to make sure people got who we are from the beginning. We're not like the Spice Girls. We are a pop band, yeah. But we are a band who write our own songs and play them live."

Turning down the Spice Girls meant turning down a chance to play at Wembley Stadium, but that's how they prefer it.

Stine said: "It's just important for us to do our own tour and do it in small steps like we've done all the years we've been together."
