Lil Nas X made a mistake when he came clean about his sexuality last month (Jun19), according to fellow rap star Young Thug.

The London hitmaker thinks the young star should have kept his sexuality private amid the astronomical success of his chart-topping hit Old Town Road to prevent backlash from homophobic critics.

"I feel like he probably shouldn’t have told the world, because these days motherf**kers is just all judgement," Young Thug said in an interview with No Jumper's Adam 22. "It ain’t even about the music no more.

"Soon as the song (Old Town Road) comes on, everybody’s like, 'This gay a** n**ga'. N**gas don't even care to listen to the song no more... He's young and backlash can come behind anything."

That said, Young Thug thinks it was a brilliant move for Lil Nas X to reveal his true sexuality in June, when members of the worldwide LGBT community celebrate their culture during Pride Month.

"It wasn't a bad idea," Thug stated of the timing of his young peer's announcement. "It was most definitely the best time to do it, during Pride (Month). That was a genius move."

Meanwhile, Lil Nas X's Old Town Road continues to dominate the music charts - it has claimed the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 15 weeks in a row and is now just one week away from making U.S. chart history by tying the record for the longest run at number one.
