Music News: Where does your name come from?

Tyke: I used to graff when i was lot younger and Tyke was the tag i used.. I started that name as a tag as i wasn't the best behaved kid in school and many teachers would label me one! Those were fun days back then painting but as i got older i got more into music. When Djing a youngster the name Tyke stuck with me as its what all my mates called me, i reckon they all called me Tyke as loads of them struggled with my first name hahaha - which is Simeon.. although theres not much to struggle with!

Music News:What’s it like being part of the world famous label Playaz?

Tyke: Its great I've been very well looked after since signing, Hype and Pascal have both done their bit to push me in the right direction and help me progress. Its great to have the opportunity to learn off and work with them, i mean they have a lot to offer with both of them having excellent careers in the game, and i believe that music is like snooker or or tennis unless your playing with good 'playaz' you will find it a lot harder to progress and learn new things, I'm not just talking about the music itself but every part of being an artist. For me it was a no brainer to work alongside the label as their responsible for some of the biggest tracks & artist's in the industry, its something I'm proud of being part of and i know that the label are just as determined as me to push forward, as an artist I've found its really important for the label and producer to be going in the same direction and reading from the same book. At the same time a lot of pressure has come with signing and as time goes on i can see that wearing off and my music starting to become more free flowing and natural and a little less constipated hahah!

Music News: What have you been up to lately?

Tyke: Lately I've been trying to get my head down in the studio and keep up the momentum, its been extremely hot so its not been easy in there! Apart from that I've been gigging along with doing mixes for 1xtra & Fabric and a couple of guest shows on radio.

Music News: What can we look forward to in the future from you?

Tyke; I hope theirs a lot more to come from me, I'm not the type of artist that knocks out the same track reorganised 30 times - every time i go in the studio i start from scratch thus i don't know whats ever goner happen.
But saying that i believe their will be more weird stuff to come out of my studio. Ive got a couple of tracks were sitting on but nothing concrete in line for them as yet so i can't divulge any info on them as they might not see the light of day. Im extremely keen on doing a full on colab ep with my mate 'Prestige', with been working together for some time now and I'm sure most would agree that what we come up with is pretty good, its hard to find someone that you can work alongside and with me & Alex it just works nicely.

Music News: Tell us about your current release?

Tyke: Its rubbish hahah, Na all jokes aside i think it pretty much shows what I'm about as an artist and as a person, my close friends will tell you that you could ring me one day and ill be an angry so an so pissed off with life, have no confidence, feel like blowing up the studio etc and then the next day be like 'ah i love music, lifes great' - border line Bi-Polar i tell ya! On the music front one of the tunes is dark, one quite funny and happy, one light sounding and mellowish and the other just normal haha. So its a good representation of what i have to offer musically and what the future holds for my further release's on Playaz. I think 'Schizophrenia' is a good title for it as I'm not far from being locked up!

Music News: Everyone’s loving the first track on the ep 'skitzophrenia', did you know it was gonna be a banger when you were making it?

Tyke: Not really, but i never do! Most of my previous tracks that have been labelled along the same lines 'Buzzards, Drug Pusher' etc, i was always forced to Finish as they sounded rubbish to me. I really am the wrong person to judge my tracks as i never have any confidence in them but i do remember really enjoying making it, but hatred the mix process after hahah. It was hard to get the final mix right as sometimes when working with hardware and going back to old projects it nearly impossible to get it just right as all the settings on equipment have changed and most stuff has been bounced down to audio. Shortly after it was finished i think it was the ned day i went and tested it at Fabric with Hazard and it didn't sound to fresh to me, but as time went on, it grew on me and grew on people! I still really love the description the raver at 'Innovation In the Sun 13' gave it when i was standing behind him in the crowd and Hype dropped it 'Sounds like a Steam Train'!

Music News: We see you’ve been playing out a lot recently, what are your 3 favourite tunes to hear drop when your out and about?
