I must say I was rather surprised when hearing The View’s latest album ‘Cheeky for a Reason’. After two painfully disappointing albums comprising of cringe-worthy singles, it actually seems that the Dundee rockers are back on track to producing the quirky, Libertines tinged music that once made them indie elitists.

But whilst there is room for optimism, don’t get too excited. The View’s latest AA-side singles Tacky Tattoo and Hold on Now aren't near revolutionary. In fact, the only reason they are rather good is because you could easily mistake them for tracks from debut album ‘Hats Off to the Busker’.

Hold on Now is catchy enough and the stronger of the two songs. Well-polished guitars accompany Falconer as he sings with a sense of sincerity. The choruses are strong and blend well with the verses, which emphasises a band finally playing to their strengths. As a whole, the song is hardly rousing and it is unlikely that you’ll be rushing to buy their album upon hearing this. Tacky Tattoo is one of them singles that bewilders me. Although a strong ballad showcasing some of Kyle Falconer’s finest assets as a songwriter, it just really shouldn't be a single, even as a double A.

The View’s latest double A-side won’t offer you anything new, but let’s just say it's nice enough.
