Lynsey is a fun loving northern lass who in recent years has brought her musical talents to London. After several years of working alongside many pop artists - including Will Young - she is now set to release her first EP, a collaboration with producer Øyvind Aamli (aka Øy).

Lyrically, there is nothing new here - songs of love, hurt and healing with a subtle gospel edge, though Lynsey is not shy to wearing her heart on her sleeve. Sonically, the EP is a mix of pop with a season of folk and country. As female vocalists go Lynsey isn't an 'Adele' - moving the richter scale with sonorous vocals - but her voice is fresh, and the songs unashamedly catchy.

The tunes meander a little in places, but there are some great additions to the mix, such as the rich warmth of a gospel choir on the final track I'll Go, and some fine bass (Chris Hill) and strings (Liz Liew) on the fun and quirky opening song Crossfire.

As I said, Lynsey isn't breaking any new ground here. Maybe she could explore a rawer edge to her music. She could probably work on her lyrics, but I guess that'll grow with maturity. However, the songwriting is solid, the mix and production top notch and melodically (in places) it gets under your skin. All in all? Well, it's a nice collection of honest songs from a talented young woman.

Released Sept 27th.
