Another CD set to celebrate all good that is good about Britain. Olympics, Jubilee and Euro 2012 all bring out the strong patriotism within us.
Whilst this album’s strapline is 40 Years of Great British Music, the only real vintage is The Who, The Clash and The Jam. Happy Mondays and Stone Roses straddle between old and new, then much focuses on Britpop (Suede, Pulp, Reef, Kula Shaker) and newer. CD3 starts off more with a leaning towards the dancefloor - Plan B, Fatboy Slim, Leftfield, Orbital and Faithless all showing Britpop is more than guitars. There are some good, slightly unexpected inclusions from big artists; The Steets have their slow weepy ‘Cry Your Eyes Our’, Pulp ‘Do You Remember the First Time’ and ‘Laid’ from James. This helps to ensure the collection is not predictable.
This is a fantastic collection of tracks; yes you might own some of these, but together it makes an excellent setlist
