Things haven’t started well for Model Society tonight, or for the wonderful venue that is the Good Ship for that matter. Of five bands on the bill tonight three cancelled at the last moment.

As soon as the first chords of ‘City of Romance’ strike out most people that were milling around the bar surge towards the stage and the venue suddenly looks a lot fuller than it was a few minutes ago. The guys are in awesome form tonight helped by the great sound by one of the best venues in NW London. I saw them at the Wheelbarrow in Camden last year and they played a powerful set then but tonight they have surpassed themselves.

Second song in we get the new single ‘Horizons’ which is a great crowd pleaser and people start to relax and even dance! What makes these guys stand out from the rest is the level of musicianship. The rhythm section rocks and grooves in all the right places and if I am correct there is a new face on drums. Steve is responsible for the melodic guitar and gets a round of ‘Happy Birthday to you’ from his fans as he is another year older tonight.

There is quite a buzz around Model Society with a lot of critics citing the as the next Wire. My favourite song of the night ‘Metropolitan Love Song’ (A song about the chance meeting with Marianne Faithful ) only enforces this 10 fold and that’s a good thing.

Model Society play Bestval in the summer and a handful of gigs around the country. Do yourself a favour and go and see them soon,
