Baby faced Maverick Sabre sang for the lucky few who came to what was a gig with a difference. The secret show described as being on an "Urban Mountain" was set on a rooftop in Hackney. Killer views, stars in the sky and a full moon are not a bad way to start an evening.

Down in the "Urban Cave" as it was called was a dimly lit room. The first song of the night “I Can Never” was incredibly beautiful and soulful. He had a tough crowd to play with. At the start of this set most people were chattering and queuing for the bar. I don’t imagine this corporate evening full of media types had any reflection on his true fan base. I doubt Maverick Sabre was in his element with the crowd and the continual mention of the sponsor. Three songs in and “I need” had the crowd on side singing along and videoing him with their phones. A nearly half hour set with five songs was not quite enough even with an encore. This was a very slick performance and the vocals were extraordinary. I just hope I am one of the lucky ones that get to see him at the Roundhouse later this month.

I caught up with Maverick Sabre backstage. He is a genuinely down to earth guy with honest talent. Click on the link below to hear what he had to say about the year ahead.
