Nine Inch Nails’ excellent “Hurt”, a song originally about Trent Reznor’s drug addiction and later re-envisioned to heartbreaking effect by a dying Johnny Cash, doesn’t exactly scream “pop cover”.

Leona Lewis’ bravery for covering it is pretty commendable, and for the first half of the song there is actually hope that she won’t butcher it - but then the vocal acrobatics and the overproduction come out, and it all goes tits up. “Hurt” shouldn’t sound like it‘s been taken from a Disney soundtrack dude.
