Video Games, was the obvious attraction for me to Lana Del Rey and her unique style of music. I first heard Lana performing Video Games on Jools Holland towards the back end of last year, and Del Rey has never looked back since.

The accelerated success of Del Rey has no doubt come from Video Games. Del Rey portrays her style as a ‘gangsta Nancy Sinatra’. Without her low voice and the melancholy feel hovering over the song and her entire album in fact, Del Rey would probably not be as successful as she is.

Since then, Del Rey has released her 2nd single, Album Titled ‘Born to die’ which did favourably well considering it was compared to her Del Rey’s first hit (Video Games). Born to die was based around an unhinged relationship between Del Rey and her Boyfriend. The song, much like many of her others are surrounded by darkness (hence the name, born to die!).

Despite the success of Video Games, which includes the praise the video received, Del Rey has certainly received her fair share of negativity. The negative press has mainly been focused at her style of music, which isn’t exactly a shining light. However, Music isn’t always supposed to be bubbly, happy and full of laughter. If that was the case, good songs would be hard to come by!

The 3rd song on the album, ‘Blue Jeans’ can only be described as a romantic love song. One of the most upbeat songs on the album (you may even go as far as saying it’s a happy song), Blue Jeans would fit the bill as part of the soundtrack to a teen drama television show or movie. I expect to hear it in one of the latter episodes of ‘One Tree Hill’ later in the year!

There is no doubt that this album isn’t for everyone. I’d advise the happy go lucky music listeners (Justin Bieberites etc.) of this world to stay away from this album as its most likely that you will dislike it. However, to the more open minded listeners, this album is certainly one for you. Doom and gloom may surround this album, but likewise does pure genius.
