The faithful Pink Floyd followers are still buzzing about the brief gathering of the surviving members of the band last May at Roger Water’s “The Wall“ concert in the UK - when David Gilmour joined Waters for “Comfortably Numb,” then the duo was reunited with Nick Mason for a performance of “Outside The Wall.” Since Rick Wright sadly passed away a couple years ago, this is what now amounts to a full Floyd reunion and has all once again wondering if the surviving trio will resurrect Floyd again.

While the world waits (and waits), the bands entire catalogue has finally gotten its proper treatment with “Discovery Box Set: The Complete Studio Recordings.” All cuts are re-mastered and the sound quality is vastly technologically superior to past Floyd re-issues. As the band created many an atmospheric track, no band is more suited for an update to their strong fidelity-sound.

Containing every original studio release from 1967’s “The Piper at the Gates of Dawn” to their 1994 coda, “The Division Bell,” the 14 CD’s have new life breathed into them, due mostly to the work of legendary British record producer, James Guthrie, who was one of the original producers on “The Wall” sessions in 1978-’79.

The most impressive moments on “Discovery” are on 1975’s “Wish You Were Here,” where Gilmours guitar, which is always impressive, seems to literally jump out of the disc on several occasions.

While a prior Floyd Box Set, 1992’s “Shine On” was a lavish construction, “Discovery” has the final and most inclusive word on the Floyds musical legacy.
