Glasgow in November is notoriously wet and famously cold. Tonight is no exception, and it’s a massive trek to Glasgow Barrowland from any train station in town. Only a good band could ease the pain of Glasgow’s miserable climate; luckily tonight’s show provides the platform for the pure definition of a ‘good band’. Playing live in the most glamorous venue in Glasgow this stormy evening is Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls.

Tonight, it’s not about old songs or new songs, fast songs or slow, it’s all about Frank Turner songs. Frank’s choice of songs for his 2 hour set was spot on, showcasing again a variety of well-loved and beautifully written acoustic folk-punk tunes. New album ‘England Keep My Bones’ is the origin for the majority of the live show track listing, proving that no matter how new a Frank Turner song is, it is always a popular one.

Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls are the coolest people in music. The way they perform and the music they create is something very rare and so beautiful. Frank Turner is a charismatic and talented frontman, and is also a professional and perfectionist, choosing support acts carefully and inviting the right people to accompany him. Not only do the Sleeping Souls provide a funky and inspiring musical back bone to the show, but they play together on stage as a legendary group of musicians.

Frank Turner live is a completely different experience to Frank Turner on record. On record, it’s clear to hear the poetry and power of a good lyricist when his voice is tamed to suit the acoustic nature of his songs. On stage however, Frank shouts and screams his way through the songs, continuously spirited and charmingly essential. Frank Turner is not a sweet or peaceful acoustic performer, he is a mean punk with a passion for his art.

Tonight is part of a massive line of tour dates for Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls. Frank Turner tours endlessly, with impressive cities piled on top of sold out venues. The band are full of energy, charisma, fascinating appeal and unique musical talent: witnessing Frank Turner tonight in Glasgow Barrowlands will definitely make it in to all the ‘best of 2011’ live gig lists – FTHC.
