After a summer of unforgettable festivals, it was time for some more all night fun as the 25th November saw the UKF Bass Culture event take place at Alexandra Palace. As the biggest bass music all-nighter to take place in the country this year it was not for the faint hearted! The event was originally scheduled to be a Chase and Status gig, and throughout the year blew up to include a line up of Zane Lowe, DJ Fresh, Nero and Skrillex. The scale of the multi-arena event gave acts like Joker and Gemini a chance to play to a much bigger crowd than they would usually perform to.

Headlining the live event were music giants Chase & Status, as dance’s most esteemed music duo they put on a mind-blowing set which had the whole crowd pumped. They performed a number of their tracks, which included Warrior with Maverick Sabre, who also took to the stage with them, much to the crowd’s enjoyment! Joining them was Nero who we have seen storming the charts with their number 1 hit ‘Promises’. Pendulum’s duo Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen took to the stage as new under the radar project Knife Party which proved to be a crowd pleaser. As a ‘Bass great’ Zane Lowe completed a set which showed why he is arguably Radio One’s finest specialist DJ.

After the madness of the Main Arena, it was refreshing to step into a less manic atmosphere in the Union arena to see the first EVER live London set by the phenomenal DJ Fresh. He had a dedicated and full crowd watching him perform new tracks alongside singers like Rita Ora. DJ’ing from inside a pyramid, he proved he has a good year ahead of him after the huge track ‘Louder’ made it to number one last summer. The disappointment of the evening came when Skrillex was late for his set, after flying over from Vienna to London to make the event. Many people had left by the time he came on, which a shame was given the hype surrounding his appearance.

The event overall was well organised and the production was spectacular, however as has been seen in the recent press, there were far too many young people who had come along for the wrong reasons and not for the amazing display of musical talent. However for those that did come to see some of the most talented bass DJ’s and singers, the night was one to be remembered!
