Will Young's progress as an artist since Pop Idol has been impressive, seemingly finding his feet as a solo performer, shedding his slightly twee pop songs for something more robust. Many hoped last year's terrific collaboration with Groove Armada - 'History' - showed the way for his future music and this first single from his forthcoming album indicates that could be the case.

'Jealousy' begins gently enough, with the slightly vulnerable vocal, talking of burning fires and the power of the green eyed monster, before the beat kicks in after 30 seconds – and from there the track builds impressively.

An obvious delight for radio stations, given the right support, this could be Young’s biggest hit for sometime. There’s no fear of scaring his middle-aged backers but there's certainly some musical progress. If the album matches this taster the autumn tour dates should be fun.
