West Yorkshire’s The Pigeon Detectives return with their first single in three years looking to continue the momentum from solid hits like This Is An Emergency. They’re not a band full of surprises though and this taster from the album is a good indication of what to expect. And sadly it’s not too much.

Done In Secret is pretty standard fare, with guitars and drums pumping under laddish lyrics like “you can put my back against the wall, but you won’t take me outside”. The song is destined to soundtrack football action on Sky and may feature on radio but ultimately the thin production and meaningless lyrics fail to engage and the song won’t be remembered in six months time.

The Pigeon Detectives need to develop some depth and the album offers a bit more than this vacuous 3 minutes. Why it’s been chosen as a single I don’t know.
