I think Katy Perrty should have called this either ‘Carry On … Innuendo’ or ‘Teenage Wet Dreams’ such is the amount of hardly suitable innuendo and sexual reference within this bubblegum pop album. It’s an interesting conundrum as well, as musically she is appealing to tweeny audience members with her bright, breezy colourful pop, however creating an album with parental guidance, and literary use of the F word and sexual references such as on peacock – “I wanna see your peacock, cock, cock ….. Come on baby let me see What you're hiding underneath”.

That said, from an adult perspective she has delivered exactly what she is best at – catchy pop tunes, laced with sexiness and plenty of tongue-in-cheek lyrics. Having heard ‘Teenage Dreams’ and ‘California Gurls’ you know what you are going to get, and Katy certainly delivers in abundance, especially on ‘Firework’, ‘Last Friday Night’, Hummingbird Heart’ and ‘Circle The Drain’. It’s not all sugary pop though; tracks like ‘E.T.’, ‘Who Am I Living For’ and ‘Pearl’ show a (slightly) maturer sound, and deeper lyrics; the latter about a controlling boyfriend.

‘Peacock’ as mentioned is about as thinly veiled double-entendre as you can get, and over a Toni Basil ‘Mickey’ styled cheerleader track, you can almost imagine the video now!!

This probably won’t win any awards, however I am sure Katy Perry’s quest for dominance of a sexual pop world will continue to rise (oh er missus!!)
