Everything Everything – 29/04/2010 NME Radar Tour - Manchester Academy 3

Let’s face it, we are, always have been and shall be awash with musical reminders of where we’ve been before. Familiar melodies, chord progressions and time signatures carry us comfortably if somewhat un-inspiringly where we want or expect to go.

There are of course the brave and stubborn few who thankfully resist the temptation to tread the well worn routes and instead invent their own musical destinations. OK so it comes from somewhere (or everywhere) granted but EE certainly can’t be accused of being conventional retro-bates. With influences such and Michael Jackson , Destiny’s Child and Radiohead who knows under which section the Summer-due debut album is to be shelved in Record stores.

Alternative, R n B, Pop, Prog, Hip-Hop, A’capella, in fact pretty much all genres are up-rooted and re-planted with a sprinkling of E.E magi-grow.

They have recently signed to label giant Geffen Records and tonight's homecoming gig follows a Euro-tour and a trip to Texas for SXSW. 2010 shall prove to be Jeremy, Jonathan, Mike and Alex’s biggest yet, currently co-headlining (with Hurts) the NME radar tour and a main support slot for Delphic follows.

Based mainly in Manchester, there’s a good 200 or so in the intimate venue and they passionately receive second single 'Suffragette Suffragette', igniting a seven song set that's as fresh and exciting as a band can get. There’s an introduction to quirky new single 'Schoolin’', Radio 1’s Zane Lowe recently had this as his 'Hottest Record in the World', and featuring frenzied falsetto, multi-part harmonies, irresistibly ludicrous lyrics, swirling guitars, it’s trademark E.E.

To work live their multi-layered style requires some pretty handy playing and the lads deliver. 'Tin' and 'Weights' show just how dynamic this band are and past singles 'MY KZ UR BF' and 'Photoshop Handsome' are also greeted with resounding fervour leaving us punch-drunk and thirsty for more.

Their live reputation is set to grow with Festival appearances at Reading, Leeds, Glastonbury and Bestival to come.

Give your collections a breath of fresh air when their must-buy debut album is released in August.
