With the Mill Edinburgh running into its fifth week, its time for the promoters to prove why the claim of 'a truly different live music experience’ still goes. Tonight the Mill plays host to a rap/hip hop evening, straying from their usual popular antics. The night pulls in a crowd eager to hear the bands, but since the tickets are still entirely free, the fans tonight are a completely varied group of people. The show is off to a late start but, finally, on stage appears two beat boxing champions to kick off.

A beat box collaboration will always be impressive and this pair captivates their audience from the second they step on stage. The awe-inspired audience can only stare at the duo as they produce sounds and beats that simply should not be capable of coming from humans. This act are only to warm up the evening but their awesome activities go down so well an encore for later in the show is promised.

Next on is Dbass, a 7 piece live band from Glasgow with vocalist Martin Fell already proving his talent as one half of the beat boxing duo that just stepped off stage. With a sax and double bass incorporated, this is a smooth jazz act with an upbeat rap artist in tow. Although not your average Mill act, Dbass are amazing, creating a sound and style entirely unique to themselves, or so you thought,

Underling is the second act to play tonight, fusing jazz with rap and showing that no matter your musical background, this is a style designed to wow you. The double bass adds a classical touch to the band and MC Aron Moorhouse delivers his vocals with sheer precision. Again, this is not your average Mill act, but is a treat none the less for the crowd. Underling brings a new audience to the Mill, but at the same time, intrigues the regular Mill fans.

The Mill tonight has been somewhat experimental, truly unique and a completely different live music experience. Whilst it will be nice to return to normality in the next few weeks, you can’t help ponder upon the Mill this evening and remain intrigued as to what treats and surprises those crafty organisers have got up their sleeves.
