Union Sound Set

Cause and Resolve is the second single to come of Union Sound Set’s debut album Start/Stop, and right cracker it is too.

The band follow a pretty standard quiet bit/loud bit pattern but with some style. The loud bits are guitars at their boldest with a sound to engulf arenas. The quiet bits reveal the throbbing, almost military rhythm that underlies the song. Edd Simpson’s vocals are at times drowned by the wall of sound, but he has a reasonable set of pipes.

I Know is the b-side and while not quite as brash as Cause and Resolve, and more typically indie, still retains a big sound and guitars to the front. It builds nicely to a climax where the band breakout and just let themselves go ripping into their instruments.

The indie crowd will go a bundle on this, and it’s certainly loud and bombastic enough to satisfy some of the rock fraternity, but probably a bit spick and span for some tastes.
