Originating from Jackson, Mississippi but now residing in Nashville, five-piece indie-rock band The Weeks’ career is rapidly gaining momentum.
Formed in 2006 whilst still at high school, the band now only just into their twenties are about to embark on an intensive promotion of their new album Dear Bo Jackson - and what better way to do it than with a series of tours?
Zealous to begin their own first full headlining UK tour whilst simultaneously supporting Kings Of Leon’s European arena tour, the band appear eager to put their stamp on this side of the Atlantic. The Weeks have a hectic schedule ahead of them by also playing at both the Hard Rock Calling Festival and Bilbao BBK Live.
Unconcerned with reputation and music genre, The Weeks have a long haired, youthful, understated look which is far more simplistic than their music. Complexity and maturing of their sound has provided a massive stride forward in the band’s evolution from previous albums such as Gutter Gaunt Gangster and Comeback Cadillac. This may be attributed to the arrival of Admiral Collier who joined the band in 2011; blessed with the ability to play numerous instruments and excellent compositional knowledge this will be his first album with the band.
Dear Bo Jackson pleasantly releases variation from one track to the next; from the slow thought provoking ballad Ain’t My Stop which show cases the voice of Cyle Barnes to up tempo Harlot’s Bluff introducing gang chant into the mix to provoke crowd interaction during live shows. With a feel good factor, Brother In The Night possesses melodic keyboard, gentle riffs and clear vocals whilst brass instruments present a little drama. Infectious contemporary southern rock influences give an individual edge to The Weeks' sound and proves to be unusually danceable. Powerful homeland lyrics of modern life in the Deep South incorporate the band’s grass roots giving a distinctive identity.
In case you’re wondering how the album name derived, Bo Jackson was the first All Star master sportsman to conquer both American football and baseball. The album was released in the USA earlier this year under The Kings Of Leon label, Serpents and Snakes. It’s due to hit our shores on 15th July 2013 under the Columbia label.
