Last Friday saw The Tricks rock out at Islington's finest music venue The Lexington. The four-piece performed hard-edge indie-rock with influences of blues, Americana, mod-era rock'n'roll and post-punk to a buzzing crowd. Playing a mixture of old and new tracks on the night including '49 Mercury' and 'On Trial' the band served up a fantastic live performance to end their UK tour.
The Tricks are brothers Joel Hodge (lead vocal/bass) and Ash Hodge (drums), John Bisset and Eliot Crabtree (both guitars). The four friends grew up together in Hertford and after stints in other bands formed The Tricks. After establishing themselves gigging around London, The Tricks caught the attention of LA label Unison Music Group and were flown to LA to sign to the label and record.
Hertfordshire to LA is definitely not bad going and the response from the audience at The Lexington proved exactly why they've been so successful in such a short period of time. It hasn't all been plain sailing and glamour, these guys have put the work in for the success they've received, often waiting hours to get studio time in LA and sleeping in budget hotels. On the night they performed their amazing new single 'Better', an indie summer type of song with fast riffs and catchy lyrics which I've been looking forward to hearing live and was not disappointed!
The last night of their UK tour ended on a massive high, with The Tricks showing exactly how a London gig should be done!
