Oh Yeah’ kicked off the album launch party gig at Dingwalls and two minutes in it already feels like the middle of the set.

Billy Lunn has that extraordinary ability to grab you by the throat and pull you happily into his world. Second song ‘Shake! Shake!’ sees head banging bassist, Charlotte Cooper, take on vocal duties. Clutching her white bass in a black sparkly dress, she’s a very sexy artist. The new single ‘My Heart Is Pumping To A Brand New Beat’ is delivered with typical Subway frenzy and bodes well for the new self-titled fourth album.

“Is it just me or is it hot in here?” says Billy keeping his black t-shirt on for once. The temperature has risen dramatically in the mosh pit. So close is Billy’s mike to the lip of the stage, when he’s getting down with his guitar the raised hands are actually touching his face. You get the sense he loves the intimacy of these smaller venues despite the fact that a couple of times the mike is nearly toppled.

“I wrote this song about my mum” is the explanation for ‘Mary’ and "This song is about a really crazy girl who’s in this room tonight” he says before ‘Kiss Kiss Bang Bang’. ‘Rock & Roll Queen’ needs no such intro and gets the pit into full swing.

New track ‘Taking All The Blame’ is a sing-a-long rhythmical gem with drummer Josh Morgan, top off, thrashing out the beat. Dingwall’s is bouncing as Billy crowd surfs to the back of the venue and returns to the stage again in style. “Lets go crazy!” he says, “I can’t believe it’s ten years since our first album, it’s magical; it brought us you guys. I dedicate ‘With You’ to you all - you’re the reason I wake up happy!”

Judging from this outstanding performance ten years in, The Subways are alive and kicking, with a great album around the corner and plenty more moshing to do - loved it!
