The Robbie Boyd Band

Wes Anderson soundtracks, Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield, ukuleles and mandolins, and the cover of Japanese magazines – just your average week in the life of Robbie Boyd. With the tag-line “feel-good funky folk sound”, The Robbie Boyd Band are taking the radio waves by storm. The EPs ‘Autumns Flown’ and ‘Spring Generation’ are teaming with catchy folk-pop-rock arrangements so it’s no surprise that Graham Norton has been playing them non-stop.

Singer-songwriter Robbie Boyd, a naturally funny and cheeky chap, took the time to get his band just right after “doing the whole London scene” – open mic nights and busking to fund the EPs. The current 8-piece line-up complete with ukuleles, mandolins, violins, saxophones, keyboards has been together for two years and it shows. The live shows ooze style and leave you with a warm glow so recent appearances at Shepherd’s Bush Empire and Bestival were clearly no fluke. A recent packed out show at Hoxton Bar and Grill, supporting Brother & Bones, was testament to their growing fan base; a fan base that will only get bigger in 2013.

I caught up with Robbie before jetting off to Argentina to talk about the band’s recent TV experience and being touted on Radio 2.
