Wanting an album to be great and finding it so is not always the case and such is the life of the new album from The Pigeon Detectives.
Not to say it’s a bad album just that it isn’t a brilliant album.

They have been quiet for around three years and the intervening time has calmed them down a bit and given them a chance to revitalise themselves. Unfortunately it hasn’t made them more original or more radical in their sound.
They really have nothing to say that many other bands don’t although it is done well and the individuals play well but the vocals are fairly typical of the breed and the songs come over like an old fashioned Chinese meal – as soon as the next course arrives you’ve forgotten the last one.

Opening track ‘She Wants Me’ is nice and chuggy with a bouncy rhythm and riffy guitars and closer ‘I Don’t Know You’ has a lonely and wan feel to the sound with a whale-song guitar in the background to emphasise the feeling of wanting but the eight tracks in between sadly didn’t leave much of an impression.

If you are a fan you won’t be disappointed but it won’t bring in a new legion of followers.
