When The Lucky Strikes released their terrific ‘Gabriel, Forgive My 22 Sins’ I took to them immediately and seeing them live a couple of times confirmed that these guys are real and serious about their music. Now, after two long years, is their new single ‘Beast Burnt Down’ and I was half-expecting something average – not at all the case, this is as good as their previous oeuvres.
The characteristics are still there: the fiddle and organ with Matt Boulter’s vocals to the fore and with the feel of The Band or Tom Petty as they recount the tale of Southend Pier burning down in 2005.
If this is leading to a new direction for their upcoming album I will be all for it, meantime I will be catching them live – not to miss!
