The Doors Alive

Touted as the best UK tribute band in the business, The Doors Alive are currently bringing a taste of the Los Angeles Sunset Strip to the UK with their latest tour. Friday 9th November saw them take in the Scottish capital, before visiting nearby neighbours Glasgow the following night.

The band, which consists of Willie Scott as the unforgettable frontman Jim Morrison, Cristian Cornejo (keyboard), Barry “Buzz” Allan (drums) and Barrington “Baz” Meyer (guitar) kicked off their Edinburgh gig with a blistering performance of ‘Changeling’, before powering through classics such as ‘Hello I Love You’, ‘Break On Through’, ‘When The Music’s Over’ and ‘Light My Fire’, to the delight of the packed out HMV Picturehouse.

Some friendly onstage sparring between keyboard, drums and guitars were perfectly accompanied by the lead singers vocals and stage presence that the late ‘Lizard King’ would have been proud of. The audience was a mixture of people who weren’t even alive when The Doors were at their prime in the 1960’s and a small group of elderly hippies who were entranced by the music. With two giant screens on either side of the stage, the crowd could be forgiven for believing that the footage was that of an actual Doors gig, due to the frontman’s looks and characteristics, rather than the tribute act.

‘Riders On The Storm’ was followed by a crowd rendition of Happy Birthday for the bands lead singer, who was born in Scotland and was joined at the evenings gig by his parents. ‘Roadhouse Blues’ had the crowd in full voice again before moving through other familiar songs and arriving at ‘L.A. Women’. The band returned with an encore of the hypnotic hit ‘The End’, which brought the evening to a close and left their fans shouting for more. A must see for not only any Doors fans, but music lovers alike.
