Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductee Patti Smith latest Greatest Hits compilation - OUTSIDE SOCIETY - is a new collection of her signature songs on the Arista and Columbia labels. The 18-song album is the first single-CD collection to span Patti's entire body of recorded work. The chronologically arranged tracks move from 1975 (her debut album, Horses, with "Gloria" and "Free Money") through 2007 (Twelve, with her cover of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit").

The album is newly re-mastered and the CD booklet features a brief recollections of each song written by Patti, who personally supervised the choices.

Patti is best known for "Because The Night," but the album covers a long career with many critically acclaimed tracks contained within. One of the more memorable other tracks is Patti’s cover of Nirvana’s seminal classic ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’; the track is stripped right back and for me loses much of the edge of the original.

This collection is a good intro to a musical talent that is perhaps not as well known as she should be.
