I could be really lazy and just let Mike Tyler describe his own songs but as he’s a poet/musician from New York, and says things like “I believe the sound of popular music is the sound of mutts barking; frictions, and strange conglomerations, mistaken identifications, and odd-ball pairings. Not Yin and Yang but Wham and Bam!”, I think I’ll do it.

Money Grows on your Knees, is a deceptively simple song with Tyler speaking over a metronomic beat interspersed with piano and some brass, with the occasional backing vocals. It’s odd but strangely engaging. The B side, a Corny Song, is a jaunty thing with light jangly guitars, and Tyler, one would guess self-knowingly, putting on the Dylanisms.

Overall despite the good nature and fun running through these songs, there’s a whiff of condescension about them that takes away some of the enjoyment.
